Build Intake

Custom server build intake worksheet.

Use this worksheet to describe the workload, constraints, and support expectations before choosing a rackmount server platform or component list.

Collect First

Inputs that change the server design.

Workload Role

  • Virtualization host, storage server, database, blockchain node, indexing, HPC node, or mixed-use system
  • Expected CPU, memory, PCIe, GPU, or accelerator needs
  • Operating system, hypervisor, application stack, and management expectations

Storage and Network

  • Capacity target, drive count, NVMe/SATA/SAS expectations, controller needs, and growth rate
  • Network speed, NIC count, optics, switching, VLANs, and redundancy expectations
  • Backup, snapshot, replication, or archive requirements

Physical Constraints

  • Rack unit target, depth limits, power availability, airflow, noise, and service access
  • Preferred hardware families, parts availability, and replacement path
  • Timeline, budget direction, warranty expectations, and handoff owner

Design Decisions

The cheapest compatible part is not always the right part.

A supportable build considers performance, serviceability, spares, future refreshes, and what happens when the system has to be repaired under pressure.
